FIREBIRDS CLAIM GIRLS AND BOYS DISTRICT RUNNER UP
The Firebirds took to the track at Ross this past Wednesday and Friday and they did not disappoint. On the Girls side, the 4×800 team of Lexi Iles, Hannah Riesenberg, Jess Jackson, and Grace Lemming got the scoring going for the Firebirds by finishing 3rd and qualifying for Regionals. After that point firebird after firebird scored and qualified for regionals. Annika Kinley won the District Title in Women’s high jump. Ayana Johnson finished 4th in the Long jump. The Pole vault duo of Kate Telles and Grace Hicks finished 2nd and 3rd. Grace Lemming qualified in the 800m. Several other Firebirds qualified for Regionals and helped the team score a 2nd place overall. The gutsiest performance on the girls side was turned in by the 4×400 team of Megan Motolik, Annika Kinley, Elsy Prempeh and Anna Szczepaniak as they bettered their PR by 6 seconds. The Firebird Girls are back in action Wednesday and Friday as they travel to Wayne.
The Firebird boys turned in a historic performance as they nabbed their first District Runner up in school history. Top performances were turned in by a boatload of Firebirds. Again the 4×800 set the tone early by qualifying 4th on Wednesday. Alex Kelker, Zach Beneteau, Cole Cronk, and Tyler Kovac were members of that squad. Event after event the Firebirds finished in the top 4 moving almost the entire line up on to regionals. Julian Wagner qualified in 4 events: 100m, 200m, 4x100m and the 4x200m. Dylan Jones qualified in 3 events: High Jump, 400m and 4x400m. Alex Kelker qualified in 2. Malcolm Rencher and Riley Meek qualified in 2 events each. JJ Ross was a Relay King qualifying in the 4×200, 4×100 and 4×400. There were countless other Firebirds that contributed to an incredible team effort. West Boys missed out on the title by 1 point but put everyone on notice that the Boys Track Program at West is a force to be reckoned with. The Firebirds are back on the track Wednesday and Friday as they travel to Wayne for the Regional Meet.
