Junior Sydney Jones (’21), daughter of Sarah Cornella and Sid Jones, has verbally committed to play soccer and continue her education at The Ohio State University.

1. What led you to your decision to attend your chosen college?
I didn’t want to go far from home and I wanted to visit as many campuses as I could to make sure I made the right decision.

2. What other schools did you consider?
I considered Duke, Penn State, And Tennessee

3. Do you know what you want to study?
I’m undecided on a major but I’m leaning towards business.

4. When did this school come into the picture?
OSU came into the picture when they showed a lot of interest in me by coming to my games and after I visited their campus.

5. Have you visited the school? If so, when? How did it go?
Yes, I visited my freshman year and it was amazing. I loved everything about it and I knew I wanted to go to OSU.

6. Did anyone help you through the recruiting process? What kind of help did they provide?
My club coach at the time helped me a lot. He told me to choose the school that I would be comfortable attending without soccer. That was very helpful advice.

7. What are your strengths?
Some of my strengths are placing the long ball over the top to the forward, free kicks and corners, competitiveness and my ability to get forward as a defender.

8. What do you think you need to improve before starting college?
Before starting college I need to work on my fitness level and strength because college is faster and more physical.

9. Please list any special awards, accomplishments or distinctions you may have earned:
– 2/U-16 U.S. National Camps
– 6-time State Champion
– Runner up at Nationals
– Best Defender in the Region

Congrats Sydney! #WestPride
