Bryce Johnson (class of 2018) played three seasons on the varsity baseball team and stole a total of 55 bases, a new Lakota District and Lakota West career record. He surpassed the old record of 50 steals which had been achieved by Jimmy Brenneman, class of 2008. Johnson’s best year was 2007 when the Firebirds reached the OHSAA Division 1 final four when he had 28 thefts. This year he added 19 more, enough to surpass the old record. Johnson also became the newest addition to the Lakota West career top 10 runs list. He crossed home plate 68 times and moved into 10th place on this list which spans all 21 years of West baseball history.
Keegan Fish (class of 2018) was brought up to the varsity late in his freshman season and remained on the varsity for the following three seasons.* This year Keegan set a new Lakota West single-season base on balls record of 30. As with the career steals record mentioned about this record was formerly held by Jimmy Brenneman and had stood at 25 since the 2008 season. His single season on-base average (OBA) this season missed the current OBA record, which has stood since the first Lakota West season in 1998 by just 0.004 and is the second best ever.
*Keegan came into his junior season following a basketball knee injury. He played one game limited to one plate appearance as a junior.
