Annika Kinley shattered one of the oldest records in the Lakota School District’s track and field record book. She cleared a height of 5’ 7.5” while winning the high jump at last week’s Colerain Invitational meet.
This height topped the Lakota school district record (Lakota East, Lakota West, and Lakota combined) that had been held by Shari Brewer for 38 years. Shari established this venerable mark in her junior season at Lakota high school in 1981 when she won the Forest Park Invitational. Shari Brewer (now Valentine), a multi-sport athlete, was inducted into the Lakota Athletic Hall of Fame at the 2006 induction ceremony.
Kinley’s winning jump now stands as the 10th best in the history of Southwestern Ohio. The Southwestern Ohio area includes approximately 50 schools (past and present) and records for these schools have been compiled over the past half-century. Additionally, her winning jump at Colerain has been the third best jump achieved in Ohio so far this season.
Annika had held the previous Lakota West school record with the height of 5’ 4.5” which she had cleared earlier this outdoor season. Kinley is just getting into her sophomore outdoor season, but she is already well established in the annals of the Greater Miami Conference. The highest height ever cleared by a GMC athlete is 5’ 8”. This was first done by Princeton’s Shannon Danforth in 1989 and duplicated by Stephanie Dixon of Milford in 1995 when the Eagles were members of the league.
