Congratulations to the wrestling team who competed over the weekend at the Sectional Tournament and qualified seven wrestlers to this week’s District Tournament, the most District Qualifiers since 2016! The Lakota West was led by juniors Will Allen and Vaughn Nguyen, who went undefeated and were Sectional Champs! Also qualifying for Districts were Jake Williams, Matthew Szczepaniak, Josh Allen, and Cory Whatley, who took 3rd place at Sectionals. Ty Bastin was our final qualifier who secured his spot by taking 4th place. Freshman Michael Schumacher just missed qualifying to Districts by placing 5th, as did Freshman Chase Riggle and Sophomore Micah Reynolds, who placed 6th.

Come out and watch the action this Friday and Saturday at Kettering Fairmont for the OHSAA Southwest District Tournament, where the wrestlers try to earn their ticket to State! The top 4 finishers from each weight this weekend qualify for the OHSAA State Tournament next weekend in Columbus!

Finally, a BIG CONGRATULATIONS go out to senior Kendra Hiett and sophomore Kate Fenton, who wrestled at the OHSWCA Girls State Tournament last weekend. Both girls wrestled incredibly and took 4th place individually, which earned Lakota West a team finish of 12th place out of 119 schools! Among other records, Kendra leaves West as the all-time Girls’ wins leader and a 3x State Placer!!
